Socialising is an important factor affecting the financial situation of emerging adults, both in real life and virtually on social media, and the FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) mentality often leads them to overspend and thus always struggle to balance their social life and personal financial management.

To help emerging adults cope with the financial pressures of FOMO, we have developed Beacome, a goal-based (set-plan-approach-achieve) peer support community. The strategy of BeaCome is to counteract negative FOMO by creating positive FOMO.

Beacome combines a service framework with a specific behaviour change model and a peer support model, which will not only help to achieve short-term goals, but also help young people to develop better consumption habits and make better decisions in the long term.

WOOMOOL offline.png

Woomool is a service that aims at promoting mental health among children and young (18-25) people. We encourage emotional expression by providing online and offline channels for expressions, and guide users to understand their own emotions and to figure out their own need for emotional expressions.

Expressing emotions plays a crucial role in the emotion regulation process and in maintaing a mental wellbeing. Research suggests that expressing painful thoughts and feelings may help reduce the risk of illness. While expressing positive emotions helps to modulate people’s reaction to stress and allows them to recover from the negative effects of stress more quickly.

On the other hand, avoiding emotional expression is harmful. According to research, people who hide their emotions are more likely to have both physical health problems such as frequent colds and flu, and mental health problem such as anxiety and depression. A repressive coping style to emotions is an undesireble trait to achieve a good mental health.

Overall, the above highlights the importance of emotional expression in maintaing a healthy mental wellbeing.

Woomool strive to spread the value of emotional expression.

We aim to tackle the art transportation and storage industry. Currently, art storage and transportation is very expensive and very wasteful, as most packaging is custom made for each piece and single-use. Oftentimes, artists do not have proper storage for their pieces at home.

PackAge will provide affordable, reusable, and branded packaging solutions for artwork to facilitate the exchange between artist and customers.

Poverty Alleviation Research in Rural China 2018-2019

微信图片_20190129001458.jpg

This is an ecological poverty alleviation project in Pingwu County, Sichuan Province, a mountainous region in southwest China.

It is a cross-sectoral collaboration between the local government, local businesses, NGOs, academic and research institutions, and internet companies, under the initiative of government policy.

We support this impoverished village to establish and develop its own eco-based industry, build its own honey brand, and promote and sell the honey brand nationwide through a series of creative marketing campaigns.

The development of technology and media has allowed humans to extend and reshape their bodies.

In a future where the boundaries between man and machine are blurring, the physically challenged can become the first practitioners of human-machine body aesthetics, and people can design and define their own bodies.

This project addresses the increasing number of young individuals living alone, focusing on understanding their behaviors and needs. The outcome of the project is a robot that, after extensive learning, evolves into a companion with a unique personality. Unlike traditional obedient robots, this one might develop traits such as a bad temper, allowing it to grow with you, impact your daily life, and become an integral part of your routine.

Through this project, I aim to explore the evolving relationship between humans and machines. Robots should not merely follow commands; they should also influence and subtly guide human behavior and habits. Likewise, through continuous interaction with people, robots should learn and adapt, fostering a positive and dynamic cycle of interaction between humans and machines.

I BACKGROUND & CHALLENGE

This project focuses on the work environment of food delivery couriers in the food delivery industry in China's first-tier cities. With the rapid growth of food delivery platforms, consumer demand for convenient and fast dining services has significantly increased, leading to heightened work pressure for delivery couriers. They face challenges such as handling high order volumes, navigating complex delivery routes, and completing deliveries within limited time frames while ensuring food quality and customer satisfaction. This high-pressure environment often results in decreased delivery efficiency, fluctuations in service quality, and potential safety concerns. Therefore, the project aims to optimize service design to alleviate delivery couriers' stress, enhance delivery efficiency, and ultimately improve overall customer satisfaction.

II INSIGHT

After extensive desk research and field studies, I have narrowed the focus of the project to the final stage of the delivery process—delivery within residential communities, commonly referred to as the "last mile" delivery. This focus stems from the unique characteristics of residential communities in China.

  • Insight 1: Multi-level security barriers in Chinese residential communities, including gated entrances, access-controlled buildings, and individual unit door security, create challenges for delivery couriers.

  • Insight 2: Densely populated and complex residential layouts with closely-packed buildings make navigation difficult and time-consuming.

III SERVICE PROPOSITION

How might we optimize the last-mile delivery service system within residential communities to overcome access barriers, reduce delivery time, and enhance courier efficiency and customer satisfaction?

IV SOLUTION

RELAY—The proposed potential solution for this project is to establish a "relay station" and "relayers" within residential communities to complete the delivery within the community.

Relayers are individuals or automated systems responsible for picking up deliveries from the relay station and completing the final leg to the customer’s door.

Types of Relayers:

  • Community Members: Trained local residents who can perform this role as a part-time job or community service.

  • Automated Systems: Robots or drones that can handle the final delivery stage, depending on community infrastructure and regulations.

Benefits:

  • Localized Service: Relayers are familiar with the community layout, reducing navigation issues and improving delivery accuracy.

  • Increased Job Opportunities: Creating part-time or gig jobs for local residents can benefit the community economically.
